Ryan A. Sage
Ryan is a seasoned professional with more than three decades of experience in the electrical and construction industries. His career began through the IBEW , and after completing his four-year apprenticeship and earning his Red Seal certification, Ryan advanced through roles as a journeyman and foreman, successfully managing a wide range of Industrial, Institutional, Commercial, and Multi-Residential projects.
With a passion for continuous growth and a keen interest in the broader business side of construction, Ryan transitioned into the estimating and quotations department of an electrical distributor, managing and pricing complex projects. His ability to blend technical proficiency with strategic client management propelled him into an Account Manager position, where he spent over a decade refining his expertise and became Western Canada’s top performing professional, known for his technical expertise, client-focused approach, and deep understanding of market dynamics.
In 2018, Ryan joined KEL Design & Procurement Corp. as a partner, combining his hands-on field experience, business insight, and leadership skills to drive company growth. Under Ryan’s strategic leadership since 2021, KEL has broadened its service offerings and expanded its operations across Canada and into the United States, strengthening its position as a trusted leader in lighting design, consulting, and procurement. Ryan’s vision and extensive industry experience enable him to bridge the gap between design intent, and execution, with forward-thinking solutions that align design creativity with technical accuracy and on-site implementation — driving consistent value, innovation, and results for KEL and its clients.

Jason Kennedy
Jason brings over three decades of experience in electrical contracting, project management, and value engineering to the commercial and industrial construction sectors across Western Canada. After completing a Marketing Management diploma at BCIT, Jason began his career in electrical distribution before quickly transitioning to electrical contracting — a move that set the foundation for a dynamic and accomplished career.
Over the past thirty years, Jason has worked extensively on commercial and industrial projects throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. As a partner with two established firms in Western Canada, he led the design and construction of several landmark projects, including the Vancouver Wharves, YVR interior CRUs, and Science World’s exterior LED programmable lighting replacement. Between 2001 and 2015, he successfully completed more than 100 tenant buildouts, ranging from 5,000 to 80,000 square feet, across some of Vancouver’s premier B to AAA commercial buildings.
In 2016, Jason founded KEL Consulting with the goal of delivering high-value, results-driven solutions to clients in the design and construction industry. Today, he provides lighting design and consulting services to electrical engineers, project and construction managers, architects, and interior design firms, helping clients optimize performance, reduce costs, and achieve exceptional project outcomes.
Jason’s deep technical knowledge, and client-focused approach, allows him to bring creative, practical, and cost-effective solutions to every project he undertakes.
SENIOR LIGHTING DESIGNER / DESIGN DIRECTOR
Ian Martens
Holding a Master’s degree in Theatrical Design and Production from the University of Calgary, Ian brings over twenty years of design experience that bridges both the performance and architectural lighting disciplines.
Ian began his career in theatrical design, where over a fifteen-year span he contributed to hundreds of productions, earning multiple professional awards and nominations for his innovative use of light and space. In 2014, he transitioned his creative focus to architectural lighting design, embracing the challenge of applying his theatrical understanding of light to the built environment. Since then, Ian has developed a diverse portfolio encompassing hundreds of projects, each driven by his belief in using light to enhance the human experience and elevate architectural intent.
His work has been recognized with multiple IES Awards of Merit, including for Calgary’s New Central Library and the Glenmore Dam Rehabilitation Project. Ian has also collaborated on several award-winning designs, such as Calgary’s West Eau Claire Park, Ampersand Renovation, Major Tom, The Royal Alberta Museum Gift Shop in Edmonton, the Fairmont Banff Springs Rundle Lounge, and Hello Sunshine.
A dedicated advocate for education and professional development within the lighting community, Ian has served on the IES Calgary Board of Directors, leading the Education portfolio from 2017 to 2020. He also taught Fundamentals of Lighting from 2017 through 2021 and has been a frequent guest lecturer on lighting design in the Faculties of Engineering and Environmental Design at the University of Calgary.

Jeff Steen
Jeff began his electrical career with IBEW Local 213 in Vancouver, where he completed his apprenticeship with a small contractor based in Burnaby. Early in his career, he gained extensive experience in commercial renovations, tenant fit-outs, and small-scale new builds.
In 2007, Jeff advanced to the role of Foreman, successfully managing several major tenant improvement projects, including the BMO office at Bentall 3 with PCL Construction and the Wood Gundy tenant improvement and base building upgrades at the Evergreen Building on West Pender Street.
Five years later, Jeff joined a larger union contractor in Vancouver as a B Foreman, where he oversaw all medium- and low-voltage installations for the new UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences building. Over the past decade, he has held A Foreman positions with two prominent local non-union electrical contractors, leading major commercial projects such as large-scale tenant improvements, the Walmart Distribution Facility, and the one-million-square-foot Lake City Studio Complex.
With a career spanning over two decades, Jeff brings deep technical expertise, leadership, and a proven record of delivering complex electrical projects on time and to the highest standards.
